The Research Laboratory Technician position involves conducting molecular and cellular biology research, including tissue culture, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, and data collection and analysis. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in laboratory research employing innovative techniques.

• Communicates problems or matters of a scientific, technical, and/or administrative nature.
• Maintains accurate records of tests conducted, results, data, including calculation of results from supplied data, obtained data, and statistics.
• Responsible for inventory maintenance at each bench assignment.
• Performs a variety of molecular and cellular biology assays using tissue cultures and tissue extracts, including one or more of the following:
  • Western blotting
  • Immunofluorescence staining
  • ELISA
  • RNA isolation/RT-PCR
• Prepares stock solutions and reagents.
• Maintains a clean, efficient work area and replenishes/orders supplies as needed.
• All other duties as assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Candidates should possess a B.S., B.A., or M.S. degree, preferably in Biology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
• Desirable but not required skills include experience with sterile tissue culture, RNA and protein extraction, gel electrophoresis, ELISA, immunofluorescent imaging, Western blotting, and polymerase chain reaction.

• Ability to accept and apply feedback.
• Regular and predictable attendance is expected.
• Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow.
• Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
