Quality Assurance & Code Compliance Manager — Industrial Piping Picture your day: you start by opening the weld map dashboard to verify overnight fabrication, join a pre-task meeting to align inspectors with today’s ITPs, walk a piping package with the Owner’s Inspector, then brief leadership on quality KPIs before closing with a client audit prep. What you’ll own Quality Management System Build, maintain, and elevate our QMS to align with ASME, AWS, API, ANSI, and client specifications.

Author and revise ITPs, QCPs, WPSs, and PQRs; drive document control, NCR handling, CAR/PAR workflows, and records retention.

Lead internal audits, prepare for client/third-party audits, and close findings with corrective action plans.

Welding & Fabrication Integrity Administer welder/weld operator qualifications per ASME Section IX and AWS D1.1/D1.6.Approve WPS/PQR packages; coordinate mechanical testing and NDE with outside labs.

Oversee weld mapping, joint tracking, PWHT documentation, and heat treatment records.

Plan and accept NDE: RT, UT, MT, PT, VT, and PMI; review and sign off on reports.

Field Inspection & Testing Lead field QC Inspectors; coordinate with OI, AI, and AIA representatives.

Execute hydrostatic, pneumatic, leak, and functional tests per code and contract.

Enforce material control: traceability, heat number verification, and PMI.Inspect supports, hangers, flanged joints, and specialty components from fit-up through final.

Code Authority & Compliance Stay current and authoritative on ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.9, B31.12; ASME Section I & VIII; OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926.Serve as the designated Code Authority for ASME pressure piping programs and liaise with the AIA.Secure and comply with permits, pressure tests, and code stamps as required by jurisdiction.

Apply union contract quality provisions consistently across crafts.

Client & Stakeholder Partnership Be the primary quality interface to clients, owner reps, and regulators.

Engage in preconstruction, design, and constructability reviews to embed quality requirements early.

Manage RFIs, NCR responses, and quality submittals; present KPIs and trend analyses to leadership and clients.

Leadership & Training Recruit, mentor, and evaluate QC Inspectors and Quality Coordinators.

Deliver training on codes, standards, inspection techniques, and documentation best practices.

Partner with union stewards/foremen to nurture a craft-level quality culture.

Collaborate with PMs and estimators to integrate quality into plans, schedules, and proposals.

Your background

Education

Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

Associate’s with relevant experience considered.

HS diploma/GED plus 12+ years progressive industrial piping quality leadership may substitute.

Experience8+ years QA/QC in industrial piping construction or fabrication.
5+ years supervising or leading QC on union projects.

Hands-on pipe shop experience strongly preferred.

Proven administration of ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3 programs.

Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and labor relations.

Certifications AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) — Required.

ASME Inspector qualification or equivalent — Strongly preferred.

ASNT Level II/III in RT, UT, MT, and/or PT — Preferred.

API 570 Piping Inspector — Preferred.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction — Required (or obtained within 90 days).Technical skills

Expert with ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.9; ASME Section IX; AWS D1.1/D1.6; OSHA standards.

QMS authoring, ITP and WPS/PQR development, material traceability systems.

Procore, Bluebeam, and comparable document control platforms.

Fluent in reading P&IDs, isos, fabrication and engineering drawings.

Solid working knowledge of NDE techniques and acceptance criteria.

Working conditions

Split between office and active sites: plants, refineries, power generation, and commercial facilities.

Exposure to weather, heights, confined spaces, and industrial hazards; PPE required.

Climb ladders/scaffolds, work at elevation, navigate tight areas, stand/walk for extended periods.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for local travel.
