Position: MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
Description
AMPI owns six Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation’s American-type cheese and processed cheese is produced. The cooperative’s award-winning cheese and powdered dairy products are marketed to food service, retail and food ingredient customers. In 2019, the co‑op launched its Dinner Bell Creamery brand and accompanying Co‑op Crafted promise, highlighting more than 50 years of dairy farm families partnering with skilled cheese makers.
ESSENTIAL
RESPONSIBILITIES
All AMPI employees are responsible for reporting any employee safety, food safety, or product quality concerns to the appropriate authority.This position carries elevated responsibility for ensuring food safety and product quality across all operations activities.Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, directing work and approving time worked; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Provide direct supervision to the Maintenance Department.Responsible for the maintenance of the ammonia compressors and the ammonia system to attain the desired temperatures from the system and to assure system safety.Responsible for administering, training, record‑keeping and reviewing of the PSM program.Oversee all duties related to boiler operation, maintenance, and record‑keeping. Ensure that the boilers are safe, efficient, and properly maintained. Train appropriate maintenance technicians in boiler operation.Responsible for scheduling required boiler inspections on each boiler and following inspector recommendations.Ensure all maintenance employees are properly trained and certified with the following OSHA requirements:
Arc Flash, Aerial Lift, Confined Space, First Aid/CPR, Fall Protection, Forklift, Hazardous Communication – Right To Know, Hearing Conservation, Hot Works, Lockout/Tagout, and general shop safety.Review the complete operation of the plant and recommend improvements; and revise procedures to improve plant performance.Follow up with plant employees and outside contractors to ensure that work has been completed as approved, within the timeframe indicated and within the amount allocated.Review and maintain the safe and efficient operations of the plant’s production and packaging equipment and property. Promptly report concerns to the Maintenance Manager or Division Manager.Perform preventative maintenance checks.Review basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on all plant equipment and in all plant departments.Review basic plumbing repairs such as water leaks, faucet replacements, and drain openings as needed.Must be able to provide maintenance support on rotating weekends.Ensure total compliance with all company rules and regulations.Provides backup to Emergency Response Coordinator.Adhere to all Quality and Food Safety policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity.Adhere to all Safety policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity.Other duties as assigned.An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. EDUCATION
/ EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), required.
- Certification from RETA (Refrigeration Engineers & Technicians Association) or other comparable certifying agency or equivalent education and experience in boiler, refrigeration, and HVAC systems.
- Three to five years’ experience in the maintenance, mechanical maintenance, and/or repair work and/or operation of a process manufacturing facility or equivalent combination of education and experience.
