POSITION OVERVIEW
The Chemical Operator is responsible for the set up and operation of production equipment in their assigned production area used to produce microencapsulated products in a safe and efficient manner. The role utilizes both automated and manual systems to add raw materials, initiate and monitor the process to transform the raw materials into finished product. Several actions require manual operator actions that include obtaining samples for testing, manual material additions, and documentation of critical process steps.
JOBRESPONSIBILITIES
- Safe handling of equipment and materials, understanding hazards and proper use of PPE
- Maintain on-time production schedule by coordinating daily activities
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness in task completion and documentation
- Effective communication with team members and management
- Work overtime, including weekends, to cover vacancies and meet customer requirements
- Promote teamwork by assisting others when needed
- Train new or less experienced team members
- Cross‑train to other processes and positions for business continuity and flexibility
- Operate equipment in accordance with SOPs
- Observe, adjust, and monitor equipment to ensure safety, quality, and efficient operation
- Complete manual operations as required by the process
- Document critical process data in a timely and accurate manner
- Issue materials and complete orders in Deacom
- Maintain 5S standards
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts
- Perform basic care, housekeeping and maintenance of equipment and work area
- Communicate operational needs within the team and with management
- Attend all plant meetings and complete all trainings on time
- Carry out additional duties as assigned
- Occasionally push, pull and carry up to five hundred pounds
- Wear a respirator as required by the task or chemical safety data sheets
- Work safely around and appropriately handle hazardous chemicals around the plant
- Adhere to all plant safety policies, complete safety audits, participate in safety projects, identify site hazards, and contribute to safety improvements; complete annual safety training as required
- Become familiar with, understand and comply with the Milliken Quality Policy, SOPs, ISO 9000 standards, and relevant company policies
- Understand and follow the Responsible Care Management System (RC‑14001) and plant procedures to ensure compliance
- Identify significant aspects of the job, help ensure controls to reduce or eliminate negative impacts, and take actions to minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve energy
- Manage hazardous waste: understand regulations, collect, label, transport, and respond to spills as outlined in RCRA and OSHA regulations; follow instructions from the hazardous waste manager or designee
- Understand the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) and RC‑14001 certification
- Understand the importance of conformance to the Environmental, Safety and Responsible Care Policies, procedures, and the requirements of the RCMS
- Understand the significant environmental impacts associated with work activities and help ensure controls are in place to reduce or eliminate negative impacts
- Understand the potential consequences of deviation from specified operating procedures
- Immediately report any accidents and releases per the company escalation protocol
- Comply with all environmental, health, safety, and security rules;
Environmental, Safety, and Responsible Care policies and programs established by the company to the extent of training received - Recognize that adherence to job responsibilities and procedures regarding environmental, safety, security, and health is a condition of employment
- Contribute to continuous improvement of plant environmental, health, safety, security, and Responsible Care performance and programs
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Accountability – Ability to accept responsibility and account for actions
