Position Summary:

Under limited direction, plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons to enrich and enhance each child's cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and creative development in a laboratory setting. Model best practices while supporting lab experiences for university students and faculty.

Reporting to the Center Director, the lead teacher is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and quality of education of preschool-age children. Under the direction of the Director, the lead teacher and Master Teacher collaborate to ensure that curriculum and classroom activities are properly delivered, and that the needs of the students and the goals of the center are met appropriately.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Provide a stimulating, safe, and engaging environment for children and students to explore and learn

* Model best practices for children, students, peers, and families

* Develop, implement, and maintain daily lesson plans and binder

* Develop and complete child assessment portfolios and review with families each semester

* Complete appropriate paperwork and documentation

* Collaborate with and support peers, students, and the CDC director as needed

* Work collaboratively with CDC staff and professors to facilitate high-quality lab experiences

* Maintain communication with families and the community through appropriate outreach activities

* Abide by CDC and ENMU policies, procedures, childcare licensing and quality standards, CACFP regulations, and NAEYC's Code of Ethical Conduct

* Attend staff meetings, center events, and family meetings

* Regular and predictable attendance required

* Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum

Job Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in child development, early childhood education, special education, or a related field, and a minimum of one year of experience directly related to the duties specified, is required. The position requires clearance of a criminal records check, current First Aid/CPR certification, and successful completion of all new-hire and annual trainings, required by childcare licensing and other governing agencies within 60 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge of child development and the ability to relate to young children

* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all age groups

* Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community

* Ability to be prompt, reliable, and professional

* Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines to procedures

* Ability to supervise and train students, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments as needed

Physical Demand and

Working Conditions:

* Work is performed both inside and outside under conditions involving noise and constant activity with small children

* Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move

* May be exposed to blood borne pathogens
