Job Description

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED ? Associate's Degree
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Hold a Child Development Associate credentials or college level child development class or child psychology class.
  • Must take Children Youth Family Department's 45 hour course within 6 months of employment.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualification as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Summary:

Child Care Workers supervise, care for, and teach children in the day-care setting

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Additional

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan instructions appropriate for the children in the classroom.
  • Work closely with assistants and the director to carry out the program goals.
  • Plan a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the classroom.
  • Organize developmental screening with the Ages and Stages Assessment and coordinate the tracking of development through anecdotal records and developmental portfolios.
  • Carry out planned educational experiences.
  • Sanitation of toys/equipment.
  • Meal count forms.
  • Recording events in children's daily logs.
  • Comforting children.
  • Transition into different activities.
  • Communicating events with parents.
  • Feeding children.
  • Keeping a safe environment.
  • Perform routine childcare duties.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 lbs), reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.

Safety/Health and Other Requirements:

  • Knowledgeable of universal hygiene precautions
  • An FBI fingerprint background check will be conducted on all new hires of the Portales Municipal Schools.

    Continued employment will be contingent upon the results of the background check.

Equipment/Material Handled:

Must know how to properly operate or be willing to operate all equipment, including current technology.

Work Environment:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After-hours work may be required.

Portales Municipal Schools are located in Portales, with a population of about 15,000. The area's economy is based primarily on agriculture. Portales is the home of Eastern New Mexico University and is less than 20 miles from Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, NM.

The Portales Municipal School District consists of six grade-level schools. This means that each school, except the high school, consists of two grade levels and is not community-based. Portales High School houses grades 9-12, while Brown Early Childhood Center is grades PD-K;
James Elementary is grades 1st and 2nd grade;
Valencia Elementary consists of grades 3rd and 4th;
Lindsey/Steiner Elementary is grades 5th and 6th; and Portales Junior High is the home of 7th and 8th-grade students.

Salary: $24,475.50 to $30,355.50 Per Year
