Position: ASLEducational Interpreter
Supervisor: Director of Special Education
Summary: Facilitate communication between the deaf/hard of hearing student and his/her peers, and school staff.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities- Display a desire to work with students.
- Serve as a role model.
- Adhere to confidentiality laws and regulations.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior.
- Engage in self-development.
- Respond productively to change and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Support the value of an education.
- Support the philosophy and mission of Portales Municipal School District.
- Complete other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the Director of Special Education or the superintendent.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior.
- Engage in self development.
- Maintain professional appearance, poise, and self control.
- Follow district policies and administrative rules and regulations.
- Assist in implementing intervention strategies to meet goals of the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Communicate information in an unbiased manner.
- Transliterate spoken English to signed English.
- Interpret spoken English into the language of the student.
- Interpret the language of the student into Standard English.
- Meet/plan with classroom teacher to familiarize him/her with language and concepts.
- Convey the social-emotional contents of the message through appropriate facial expressions and body language.
- Abide by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Ethics.

Salary: $54,383 to $62,383 Per Year
