Description

The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors, and the general public.

Under the general direction of the Unit Director, Clinical Manager, and Charge Nurse, the RN independently provides holistic, individualized care using the Nursing Process for patients routinely seen on the unit. The RN demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency, nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care. The RN independently performs general and unit-specific clinical skills and contributes to the Sierra View Medical Center Department of Patient Care Services and nursing profession in a positive manner.

Responsibility includes assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served, obtaining and interpreting information to meet patient needs, and applying knowledge of growth and development for all patient groups.

Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours, including holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. May be required to participate in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours, and as a designated disaster service worker, assist in times of need per the California Emergency Services Act.

Employee must recognize the affirmative duty to report perceived misconduct, including potential violations of laws, regulations, policies, or this organization’s standards/code of conduct.

Should work well under pressure, meet multiple deadlines, and demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

Education & Training &

Experience:

Must have current licensure as a Registered Nurse in California, BLS certification obtained within orientation or prior to hands‑on patient care, and ACLS certification obtained within six months of assignment. Must be able to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals, write routine reports and correspondence, calculate medications for the patient population served, and use common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.

Must possess basic computer skills and the ability to recognize patient education needs, seeking necessary educational opportunities to ensure quality and safe patient care.

Essential Functions:

  • Assess, treat and/or care appropriately for the ages of the patients served; obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; possess knowledge of growth and development across all patient groups.
  • Utilize holistic assessment skills, recognizing subtle, covert, or abnormal signs and symptoms that involve patient, significant other, discharge needs, psychosocial needs, biophysical needs, environmental needs, and teaching needs.
  • Identify nursing diagnoses and interdependent nursing problems, selecting applicable nursing care standards to guide patient care.
  • Ensure the Care Plan is specific and unique to the individual patient, using Interdependent Nursing Standards and the discharge needs of complex/multi‑system patients.
  • Safely perform nursing care per established clinical policy, procedure, and standards, including safe medication administration, troubleshooting equipment, and demonstrating clinical problem solving.
