About the Company
The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are at the heart of Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri and a major tourist attraction in North Wales. Our offering is aimed firmly at the tourism marketplace and stands out as best in class. We operate trains daily from late March to the end of October.
Position:Steward
We are looking for a Steward to work on our trains on either the Ffestiniog Railway or the Welsh Highland Railway. This position will be based in Porthmadog, but team members may be asked to work from Caernarfon, Blaenau Ffestiniog or other starting points on occasion.

- Seasonal contract from Monday 23rd March 2026 to Saturday 31st October 2026
- Flexible shifts to suit candidate: minimum 2 days per week, maximum 5 days per week, weekdays and weekends; or weekends and school holidays

Key duties involve greeting passengers, providing information and telling factual stories about the railways, selling guidebooks, and assisting with the provision of our luxury service in Gold class. Additionally, on Welsh Highland Railway services stewards will provide an at‑seat trolley refreshment service.
Core Skills- Front of house position – a cheerful and helpful disposition is essential
- Must be presentable and approachable at all times
- Smart appearance following a strict dress code
- Able to communicate information in a clear and friendly manner
- Pro‑active and able to work on own initiative
- Must be numerate, literate and have basic computer skills
This is a predominantly Welsh‑speaking area and the Company operates a bilingual policy. The ability to converse in Welsh is therefore desirable for this post. Knowledge of locations on the Railways and their use by visitors is required for this position, and knowledge of Porthmadog and the surrounding area would be advantageous. Candidates must be flexible and able to work weekdays and weekends.
Hours of work will vary and may be available to suit candidate, with up to 40 hours per week available during the busy summer season.
