Job OverviewWe're looking for a Project Accountant to join our collaborative team and help ensure the financial success of our projects from start to finish.
In this role, you'll partner with Project Managers, the Controller, and the CFO to manage billing, job cost tracking, vendor payments, collections, and financial reporting. If you're highly organized, enjoy solving problems, and take pride in delivering accurate results, we'd love to hear from you.
Job Requirements- Monitor project costs, job cost reports, and budgets, identifying discrepancies and supporting accurate project forecasting.
- Prepare and submit monthly owner billings utilizing AIA billing documents and contract requirements.
- Track approved and pending change orders to ensure accurate project billing and revenue recognition.
- Monitor accounts receivable for assigned projects and perform timely collection follow-up.
- Review, verify, and process vendor and subcontractor invoices, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare accounts payable check runs, process payments, and manage subcontractor and vendor lien waivers.
- Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate accounting records, reconciliations, and supporting work papers.
- Respond professionally and promptly to vendor, subcontractor, client, and internal team inquiries.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including financial reporting and analysis.
- Prepare daily bank deposits, record cash receipts, and support cash flow management.
- Maintain organized project accounting files and documentation in accordance with company procedures and internal controls.
- Provide cross-functional support within the accounting department, including backup coverage for team members and other administrative duties as needed.
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and general accounting functions.
- Construction accounting experience, including project-based accounting and job cost reporting, preferred.
- Knowledge of construction industry accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to manage projects from start to finish while working under pressure of deadlines.
- Demonstrates high accountability and growth mindset with a focus on continuous improvement of processes, team, and personal development.
- Adaptable and responds effectively to shifting priorities and evolving business needs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills interacting with all levels of internal staff, consultants, subcontractors, clients, and other business partners.
- Collaborates effectively in a dynamic, small-team environment.
- (Outlook, Word, Excel) and accounting software (Sage 300 CRE preferred).
