Join our Scholar Team! We’re looking for a Scholar Program Coordinator to manage our scholarship support funds, advise Scholars, support the Alumni Council, and help the Scholar Team deliver engaging communications and programs.

The Scholar Program Coordinator works with the Scholar Team to develop and implement initiatives within the Mitchell Institute’s scholarship support programs. Key responsibilities include managing the Fellowship Award, SOS, and SPARC programs; providing proactive, tailored communication and support to Scholars; and helping coordinate Scholar-facing events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Programs and Funds
  • Manage the Mitchell Fellowship selection process — creating the application, promoting the opportunity, convening the review committee, and corresponding with recipients
  • Oversee Mitchell Institute support funds (SOS/SPARC) — corresponding with applicants, coordinating staff approvals, securing completed Terms of Award agreements, and handling follow‑up
  • Participate in the scholarship application reading and selection process
Communication and Scholar Support
  • Support communication with Scholars, including contributing to the monthly Scholar newsletter and providing timely, proactive outreach
  • Provide individualized advising and support to Scholars and Alumni through one‑on‑one meetings
  • Serve as liaison to the Mitchell Institute Alumni Council
Events
  • Help plan events, particularly the annual Campus Receptions held across Maine in coordination with college campuses
  • Coordinate event follow‑up and assessment
  • Attend Scholar events, which may occasionally require evening/weekend availability or travel
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Preference for Mitchell Scholar Alums or graduates of similar programs (Upward Bound, TRIO)
  • Strong writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage different tasks and prioritize projects; a high level of organizational skill
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite; CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database experience a plus
  • A passion for higher education, with experience and an affinity for working with young adults
  • Flexibility and self‑sufficiency, with strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Support for the organization’s policies and procedures, including a high degree of confidentiality
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Manual dexterity, visual acuity, hearing acuity, and flexibility
  • Able to sit for moderate periods using a keyboard; occasional assignments may require prolonged periods of standing or walking
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 35 lbs, with some reaching and bending
  • Staff members are encouraged to participate in Scholar programming, which may involve more rigorous physical activity
Compensation and Benefits
  • $50,000 - $55,000 annual salary commensurate with experience
  • 5% employer retirement contribution
