Job Overview
Communications Center Specialist is a role within the Traffic Management Center team at the Maine Turnpike Authority. The specialist supports safe and efficient travel on the Turnpike by providing emergency and non-emergency communications services for law enforcement, emergency responders, MTA employees, and the traveling public.
ResponsibilitiesThe specialist operates radio, telecommunications, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment, and computer-aided dispatch systems to monitor incidents. Key duties include dispatching personnel and equipment for crashes, roadway hazards, weather events, and other incidents, ensuring accurate documentation, communicating with emergency services and MTA personnel, and operating electronic message boards, highway advisory radio systems, and web-based traffic advisory services.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with computer systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in a public safety dispatch center, traffic management center, or with a computer-aided dispatch system
- Ability to communicate with emergency responders, MTA personnel, and the public; manage multiple priorities; maintain confidentiality; exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Completion of criminal history and background investigation required.
The position requires availability for all shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations, as the Traffic Management Center operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
Compensation and BenefitsThe position is classified at a Range 13, $57,408 to $73,860.80, commensurate with experience. A comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental insurance, retirement plan, health reimbursement account; paid vacation and sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.
