Location: Portland and South Portland
The Boys & Girls Club is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Program Assistant to support our after-school youth programs. This position plays a vital role in providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for members grades K-5.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about youth development and eager to contribute to our mission of inspiring and enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as responsible, productive and caring citizens. A successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
Responsibilities- Facilitate interactive and educational activities in our key impact areas of Art, Leadership, Academics and Health & Wellness.
- Assist in the delivery of various youth programs, adhering to established curriculum and activity guidelines. (IE Stem, Art, Gym and Games Rm).
- Build positive relationships with youth, encouraging participation and fostering a sense of belonging within the club community.
- Monitor member behavior and interactions, implementing appropriate management strategies to promote positive conduct and conflict resolution.
- Ensure a safe environment for all members by enforcing club safety policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to evaluate program effectiveness and contribute ideas for improvement.
- Flexibility to help cover different areas of the club due to call outs, special programs, etc.
- Track program metrics such as attendance, as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in education, social work, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with youth in a recreational, educational, or community setting preferred.
- Ability to work in fast paced and dynamic work environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle challenging situations with patience and professionalism
- Patience, empathy, and understanding when working with students of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- 21+ with a valid driver's license and excellent driving record, preferred
- Ability to engage in physical activities and stand or sit for at least 4 hours per day.
- Must be able to lift and carry materials of at least 20#, as needed.
- $17.00 per hour; commensurate with experience.
- Team orientated work environment.
- Monday-Friday 2:30-630p - Part Time, 20 hours per week.
- Maine Earned Paid Leave
-up to 40 hours per year based on hours worked.
