Program Facilitator – Maine Youth Action Network (MYAN)
The Opportunity Alliance is looking to fill a Program Facilitator with our Maine Youth Action Network (MYAN) program. MYAN is a statewide network of committed adults and passionate young people who believe in the transformative power of youth leadership. We value young people’s thoughts, voices, and solutions for creating more equitable communities and just systems.
The Program Facilitator supports statewide and local youth engagement programs and initiatives that build young people’s resilience and strengthen youth leadership on issues of public health, social justice, youth employment, and restorative practices. Responsibilities include supporting the planning and facilitation of youth‑led programming initiatives, attending and co‑facilitating content and skill‑based training with youth, supporting group development, and researching emerging practices to support curricula development related to positive youth development, group facilitation, restorative practices, and social capital development.
Scheduleand Location
Part‑time, 20 hours per week. Office is located in Portland, Maine. Remote or hybrid work may be accommodated.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or Equivalency, with 1-2 years of experience with positive youth development, leadership development, and/or workshop facilitation with adolescent and/or near‑peer learners.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Deep familiarity with Maine’s youth communities; strongly preferred ties to communities working in racial justice, public health, social justice, and with people of color, LGBTQ, rural and immigrant, refugee, and asylum‑seeking communities.
- Position requires some evening and weekend hours.
- Proficient in interpersonal communication.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including engaging geographically isolated youth, indigenous youth, LGBTQ youth, youth of color, and/or youth living in poverty.
- Experience working in a team environment with people of different cultural or linguistic identities and life experiences.
- Preferred experience with group facilitation, group dialogue, and event planning.
- Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with young people and adults, including online and on social media.
- Basic software skills and internet research abilities.
- Competent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background, child protective service check, and sex offender check, and not be on the state or federal suspension and disbarment list.
- Must be able to exert moderate physical effort with frequent physically active trainings and meetings with youth and adults, driving, typing, and occasionally lifting material weighing up to 25 pounds.
