Overview
The University of Southern Maine’s Economics Department is seeking part‑time instructors to teach two sections of Introduction to Microeconomics for the 2026–2027 Academic Year. Courses are held in person on Monday and Wednesday.
ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the full delivery and grading of the course. Duties include developing the course, teaching, assessing student performance, and meeting with students as needed. Instructors receive course learning objectives, program competencies, and a suggested topical outline, and have access to the previous syllabus.
Courses to be taught- Introduction to Microeconomics (ECO 102):
Students learn supply and demand, externalities, market power, consumer choice, firm behavior, inequality, the minimum wage, and other labor market issues, via theoretical concepts, modeling economic relationships, and discussion of real‑world issues. - Introduction to Macroeconomics (ECO 101):
Topics include monetary and fiscal policy, international trade, the business cycle, theories of government’s role, poverty, and inequality, with theoretical concepts and real‑world discussion.
Part‑time faculty are paid on a credit hour basis according to PATFA rates. Eligible faculty may elect benefits provided by the University of Maine System. Faculty also have access to learning‑design consulting and faculty‑development opportunities through the Center for Academic Innovation.
Qualifications- Completed Master’s Degree in Economics.
- Previous college‑level teaching experience preferred but not required.
