Job Description

TITLE:

Healthcare Workforce Program Coordinator (Mid-Coast/Northern Maine) - Portland Adult Education / NMRC

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision and direction of the NMRC Statewide Senior Program Coordinator, and working closely with NMRC advisors, statewide project partners and Portland Adult Education (PAE) Workforce Department staff, the Healthcare Workforce Program Coordinator supports implementation of the Strengthening Maine's Healthcare Workforce initiative in Mid-Coast and Northern Maine. This position helps expand access to healthcare workforce pathways for two priority populations: adults age 55 and older exploring healthcare employment or volunteer roles, and internationally trained professionals (ITPs) and multilingual adults returning to or newly entering the healthcare field.

The Coordinator works independently in the field to convene stakeholders, facilitate focus groups and listening sessions, conduct research to inform program design, and build relationships with regional healthcare employers, aging-services organizations, adult education programs, community colleges, and other workforce partners. This role requires the ability to represent NMRC and PAE effectively while working largely on one's own, at a distance from program leadership, and to travel regularly throughout the state.

Strengthening Maine's Healthcare Workforce grant is funding this position through June 30, 2028. Position continuation is dependent on additional grant funding.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate focus groups and listening sessions with adults age 55 and older, healthcare employers, and other regional stakeholders to gather input on workforce interests, barriers, and training needs, in partnership with organizations such as the Maine Council on Aging, University of Maine Center on Aging, and local Agencies on Aging
  • Conduct research and compile data related to the healthcare workforce, training, and employer landscape in Mid-Coast and Northern Maine to inform program design, including review of relevant reports, labor market data, and promising practices
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regional healthcare employers, adult education programs, community colleges (including Katahdin Higher Education Center/Eastern Maine Community College), aging-services organizations, and other workforce and community partners; identify opportunities for collaboration and referral
  • Support the planning and logistics of the project's advisory group, including scheduling, meeting preparation, note-taking, and follow-up with members
  • Assist regional NMRC advisors and the NMRC Statewide Senior Program Coordinator in connecting older adults, internationally trained professionals and multilingual adults with healthcare employers, training providers, and licensing pathway information
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date participant and activity data consistent with NMRC, PAE, and grant reporting requirements; contribute to regular reports for program management and funders
  • Support outreach and promotion of the project among older adults, internationally trained professionals, multilingual adults, and community organizations across the region, including presentations at community events and partner meetings
  • Represent NMRC and PAE at regional and statewide meetings, conferences, and stakeholder convenings; travel throughout Maine as needed, including to Portland, Lewiston, and Bangor NMRC sites and partner locations
  • Work independently to manage day-to-day priorities and schedule while maintaining regular communication and coordination with the NMRC Statewide Senior Program Coordinator and colleagues based in other regions of the state
  • Other duties as assigned by the NMRC Statewide Senior Program Coordinator
