About Learning Works After school

Learning Works After school (LWAS) provides high-quality academic intervention and enrichment programming for elementary students. We partner with local school districts to help students strengthen foundational literacy and mathematics skills, improve school engagement, and develop the social-emotional skills needed for long-term success.

Our students are often students who need additional academic support. We work hands-on with students who are performing below grade level, including regular low performers, using targeted small-group and individualized instruction to help improve foundational skills, confidence and school performance.

The Position

Learning Works is seeking a Part-Time After-School Education Coordinator to lead our after school program at East End Community School in Portland.

This position is a good fit for an experienced educator, retired teacher, school-based professional, education graduate, instructional specialist, or other youth-focused professional who wants to work directly with students in a consistent school-year setting.

The Coordinator serves as the instructional and day-to-day site leader. This includes supporting staff, coordinating programming, communicating with families and school partners, and helping ensure that students receive engaging and effective academic support.

Schedule
  • Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: 2:10–4:10 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 1:10–4:10 p.m.
  • 20 hours per week
  • School-year position, September through May
  • Additional paid time is provided for planning, staff meetings, professional development, family engagement and administrative responsibilities.
What You'll Do
  • Lead the daily operation of the after school program.
  • Create a structured, welcoming learning environment that promotes academic growth and positive behavior.
  • Provide and support targeted academic instruction for elementary students.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups, including students performing below grade level.
  • Help monitor student academic progress and use student data to inform instruction.
  • Support enrichment activities that build communication, problem-solving, initiative and perseverance.
  • Supervise and support after school teaching staff.
  • Coordinate daily programming, attendance, transportation and nutrition.
  • Maintain strong relationships with students, families, school staff and community partners.
  • Support student recruitment, enrollment and registration.
  • Participate in team meetings, planning, professional development and continuous program improvement.
