Role Overview

Our Marine/Waterfront division is looking for recent graduates with a master’s degree in civil, structural, coastal, or ocean engineering for our Portland, ME office. The Marine/Waterfront Division provides consulting services to inspect, evaluate, analyze, and design various marine and waterfront structures, facilities, and infrastructure.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Perform a wide range of structural engineering analysis and design tasks.
  • Assist senior staff in on‑site investigations to document existing conditions and determine the root of problems.
  • Manage the preparation of drawings and specifications.
  • Aider senior staff during the construction administration phase of projects.
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams of structural, geotechnical, mechanical, fire, and civil engineers.
What You'll Need
  • MS in Civil, Structural, Coastal, or Ocean Engineering
  • Excellent written, oral, and verbal communication skills; ability to convey information to internal and external clients.
  • Problem‑solving ability: solve minor or complex problems using data, logic, and judgment; strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Team‑oriented mindset; ability to work successfully with others toward a shared goal with active participation.
  • Accountability and responsibility; ability to meet deadlines and take independent initiative to ensure tasks are completed.
  • Enthusiasm, passion, and a desire to continue learning new ideas and concepts.
  • Familiarity with computer analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP, RISA, RAM, SAFE, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
  • FE/EIT certification (preferred).

Compensation

This compensation range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The pay range below is effective for 2026 and based on highest degree achieved.

  • Bachelor’s Degree: $79,560 - $81,640
  • Master’s Degree: $83,200 - $85,280
  • Doctorate Degree: $90,480 - $92,560

Base salary is a part of SGH’s industry leading Total Compensation package, which includes pay for extra hours worked, an annual discretionary bonus program, generous paid time off, and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGH’s Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
