Job Summary
Delta Utilities is seeking a Gas Engineering Specialist to manage medium-sized projects from design through completion including preparation of plans, specifications, permits and contracts. Designs new or relocates pipe facilities and issues orders on natural gas distribution facilities for subdivisions, system improvements, and public improvement projects.
Accountabilities and Essential Functions- Creates and designs intermediate gas distribution facilities, transmission system designs, and support systems, including cathodic protection.
- Prepares project documents, including long-range capacity piping plans, easements, permits, bid packages, contracts, relocation and letter agreements, red-line and green-line proposals, regulatory proposals for service area certification, and main replacement program documentation packets.
- Prepares cost estimates, material specifications and schedules, system capacity and pressure study modeling and analyses.
- Prepares and submits minor construction drawings for facilities.
- Prepares economic feasibility studies and makes customer contribution recommendations for new loads and system replacement work.
- Provides design support to local gas operations.
- Prepares operational procedures to complete projects and communicates and coordinates with district employees, customers, and government agencies when necessary.
- High school education or equivalent knowledge of English, basic mathematics, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Prefer a 2- or 4-year degree in a technical discipline.
- Minimum five years of experience in Gas Utility Design, Construction, Service, and/or Technical Field Operations (Measurement/Cathodic Protection/Leak Survey).
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned within your scope of responsibilities.
- Comprehend, document, calculate, visualize, and analyze.
- Within six months after employment, demonstrate working knowledge of company safety rules.
- Identify abnormal operating conditions.
- Acquire and maintain skills required as technology evolves (e.g., accessing electronic mapping information, collecting and interpreting electronic pipe location and leak detection information).
- Communicate and interact with all levels of management and associates, performing well in a team environment.
- Represent the company professionally in all matters, including business etiquette and interactions with both private and public entities and officials.
- Cultivate relationships and partner with business and community contacts to achieve business results.
- Collaborate across functional boundaries to improve business processes.
- Use PC software proficiently, including word processing, presentation tools, and spreadsheet programs.
- Learn and use ArcGIS, Hydraulic Modeling Software, AutoCAD, and other engineering-related programs as required.
- Motivate self, accomplish tasks, and achieve goals with minimal supervision, including self-directed learning.
- Identify solutions to problems with creativity and innovative thinking.
- Demonstrate effective project and time management to meet deadlines and remain within budget.
- Multi-task and manage several projects or activities simultaneously.
- Use initiative, good judgment, and tact to complete assigned tasks.
- Apply extensive knowledge of company policies and procedures and DOT CFR 192 regulations.
- Make sound decisions based on engineering and operational principles and company policies.
- Demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other company policies and procedures, and complete required training courses promptly.
- Consistently demonstrate respect for all individuals and adhere to the company’s values and business practices.
- Provide and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
