CFO, Financial Manager

We are hiring a hands‑on Controller to lead our accounting function and help scale a fast‑growing, operations‑driven business. You’ll work directly with our CFO, oversee the full accounting cycle, and help build a high‑performance finance team. This is an opportunity to build systems, coach emerging talent, and shape the financial future of a scaling business. This is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Portland, ME or Eliot, ME locations.
StrategicResponsibilities
- Partner with CFO to build scalable accounting systems, dashboards, and KPIs
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and operational reporting
- Support M&A diligence and financial modeling for future growth
- Drive process improvements, automation, and internal control enhancements
- Own and improve the monthly close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Supervise Staff Accountant and AP processes
- Maintain GL, journal entries, fixed assets
- Oversee AP/AR, vendor payments, and cash disbursements
- Prepare GAAP‑compliant financials and manage year‑end audit
- Education & Credentials:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification is preferred - Experience:
4+ years total;
Big 4 or top‑tier public accounting experience strongly preferred; private company exposure ideal - Technical
Skills:
Strong accounting and GAAP knowledge, well‑versed in Excel, proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems - Soft Skills:
Meticulous attention to detail, leadership and communication skills to manage teams and work collaboratively across departments, excellent problem‑solving skills, proven ability to manage multiple priorities; self starter - Bonus:
Experience in construction, landscaping, or service‑based businesses

- $85,000 - $110,000 base salary. Performance bonus potential.
