SMRT is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to join our team. Reporting to the President, the Director of Finance is responsible for the management and stewardship of the firm’s financial health. This role requires a forward-thinking individual with the capability to strengthen operations, enhance financial performance, and actively lead and support strategic growth initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions. A member of the firm’s leadership team, the Director of Finance will develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships across the firm in a position that allows room for growth and advancement.

Responsibilities

This position will oversee financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, cash management and projections; manage external relationships with independent auditors and banks; oversee risk management and insurance placement, tax management, multi-state corporate licensure, contract reviews, and work with outside legal counsel. The Director of Finance will play a key role in identifying, evaluating, and executing mergers and acquisitions, contributing directly to the firm’s long-term growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide appropriate analysis to SMRT’s board to assist with strategic plan decisions, tracking and assessments, including evaluation of M&A opportunities and growth initiatives
  • Lead financial evaluation, valuation modeling, and business case development for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships
  • Oversee and coordinate financial due diligence efforts, partnering with external advisors and internal stakeholders
  • Support deal structuring, negotiations, and financial integration planning to ensure successful execution of acquisitions
  • Monitor and evaluate post-acquisition financial performance and integration effectiveness
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls
  • Coordinate year-end audit preparation, including the proper filing of tax returns
  • Advise and support project managers in achieving project financial performance
  • Provide ongoing financial education to shareholders and management
  • Monitor the impact of new tax laws and regulations to minimize the firm’s tax liabilities
  • Manage and monitor the firm’s risk management program for all insurances
  • Maintain awareness of economic and market trends, including identifying potential acquisition targets and expansion opportunities
  • Provide shared oversight with Human Resources of payroll, 401(k) plan and benefits
  • Mentor and provide direction to the accounting manager and team
  • Accomplish accurate monthly closes and reports
  • Work closely with project managers to inform, report and advise
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance, MBA a plus
  • CPA with 15+ years or more experience in accounting, professional services preferred
  • Strong experience in mergers and acquisitions, including financial modeling, due diligence, deal support, and integration activities
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate business opportunities and contribute to strategic growth decisions
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Collaborative, decisive and analytical
  • Strategic thinker and problem solver with a growth-oriented mindset
  • Strong communicator able to effectively communicate financial concepts to non-financial managers
  • Advanced strategic planning and advisory skills
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial software, Deltek Vantagepoint preferred
