Hedge Fund and Private Equity Accountant

Portland, ME, United States — Regular Full-Time

Overview

We seek a hardworking professional to join our Fund Accounting team as a Private Equity Fund Accountant. The role involves preparing NAV for Private Equity Funds and some traditional hedge funds, handling reconciliations, valuations, and various financial statement and reporting duties. The position offers remote/hybrid flexibility within Maine, with potential full remote opportunities for residents of select states.

Responsibilities
  • Understand and complete daily/monthly/quarterly Net Asset Value (NAV) preparation for Private Equity Funds and some hedge funds, including cash and portfolio reconciliations, investment holdings valuations, and income/expense accruals.
  • Prepare calculations and notices for fund events such as capital calls, distributions, and subsequent closes.
  • Calculate carried interest and understand different waterfall structures, including preferred returns.
  • Allocate profit and loss to investors, including calculating management and performance fees for Hedge Funds and Private Equity funds and their investors.
  • Prepare Private Equity-specific financial statements in accordance with regulatory and industry standards.
  • Review and understand private equity fund clients’ offering documents, PPMs, commitment documents, and related materials, including their impact across the fund’s lifecycle (e.g., recycling/recallable distributions, subsequent close interest, closed-end features).
  • Process and record fund expense payments and ensure cash wire requests are completed accurately and timely.
  • Generate and deliver fund and investor reports to fund managers and investors.
  • Prepare and deliver supporting materials for board meetings, financial statements, and audit/regulatory requests for assigned clients.
  • Communicate with internal and external entities on fund accounting matters and assist in issue resolution.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Fund accounting experience in Private Equity or related financial services environment with knowledge of PE processes and products.
  • Familiarity with investments and strategies typical of Private Equity funds.
  • Ability to learn complex concepts quickly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; advanced Excel (formulas, pivot tables, and filtering) skills are essential.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with portfolio and investor accounting systems, particularly Advent Geneva and World Investora.
  • Experience with internal control procedures and related workflows is a plus.
  • Experience with financial reporting, information security, and client/vendor risk management is a plus.
Education Requirements
  • Four-year college degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or Economics.
