Position Overview

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Part‑time Patrol Deputies to join our ranks! As a progressive law enforcement agency that promotes a Community Policing philosophy, this part‑time position requires a commitment to work at least 120 hours per year (and offers a maximum of 1,040 hours per year). Pay is $36.72/hr and is eligible for COLA increases.

Our dedicated and elite Patrol Deputies protect and serve the citizens and visitors of towns in Cumberland County.

Responsibilities
  • Prevent crime by explaining and enforcing applicable federal, state, county, and local laws and ordinances; teaching preventative, protective, and defensive tactics; mediating disputes; patrolling assigned area; responding to notices of disturbances; conducting searches; observing suspicious activities; detaining suspects.
  • Apprehend suspects by responding to complaints and calls for help; observing violations; making arrests.
  • Conduct criminal investigations by gathering evidence; interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects.
  • And MORE! assisting with a variety of law‑enforcement duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Hold a valid Maine driver’s license.
  • Reside in the State of Maine and not more than 15 miles outside the Cumberland County border.
  • Be certified by the MCJA to work as a full‑time patrol officer.
