BI Consultant with Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or a combination of education and experience equating to the U.S. equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the aforementioned subjects.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy Enterprise Business Intelligence (BI) solutions, with a primary focus on building reports, dashboards, KPIs, and semantic models using Cognos Analytics, along with complementary development using Power BI and Tableau, across development, QA, UAT, production, and DR environments.
  • Lead report and dashboard development activities, including data modeling, complex calculations, Power Query transformations, DAX development, and performance optimization to support enterprise and program-level reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with business users and analysts to gather, analyze, and translate reporting requirements into scalable BI solutions, ensuring accuracy, usability, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Support BI platform administration and operations, including environment setup, configuration, capacity planning, high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and performance tuning to ensure stable reporting platforms.
  • Manage and maintain Power BI On-Premises Data Gateway, Cognos components, Tableau services, and Dremio clusters, ensuring reliable data refresh schedules, optimized query performance, and system availability.
  • Perform user access and security administration, including role-based access control (RBAC), authentication integration, audit support, and security validation across BI platforms.
  • Participate in BI platform migrations and upgrades, including Cognos Analytics version upgrades, Tableau platform transitions, and reporting modernization initiatives, following SDLC and change management processes.
  • Support deployment, release, and validation activities, coordinating with Project Management, Change Management, QA, and Infrastructure teams in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve L2/L3 production issues, including report failures, data refresh problems, performance bottlenecks, and security-related incidents, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Perform SSL certificate management and security checks for BI platforms to maintain secure access and compliance with enterprise standards.
  • Work closely with internal teams and vendors to deliver enhancements, optimizations, and ongoing production support, including planned maintenance and occasional after-hours releases.
  • Provide on-call and production support for BI platforms, including incident response, report execution issues, data availability concerns, and failover validation activities.
Work Experience Required for the Position
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in Business Intelligence development, platform administration, and production support, delivering enterprise-scale analytics solutions.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in BI platform troubleshooting, performance tuning, release coordination, and L2/L3 production support in regulated or large enterprise environments.
  • Proven hands‑on experience developing and administering BI platforms, including Power BI, Tableau, Cognos Analytics, and Dremio, with responsibility for security configuration, performance optimization, and platform governance.
  • Experience working with cloud-based and hybrid BI architectures, including platform migrations, modernization initiatives, and integration with enterprise systems.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, SQL, semantic layers, data source integration, and enterprise data warehouse concepts to support scalable and reusable reporting solutions.
  • Experience with capacity planning, usage monitoring, gateway administration, deployment pipelines, and automation, aimed at improving reliability and reducing manual operational effort.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, SQL, and configuration-based automation techniques to streamline BI development and administration activities.

Work location is Portland, ME with required travel to client locations throughout USA.
