Position PurposeTo perform and complete activities associated with meter reading, device programming, and customer credit functions efficiently and professionally, in accordance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
Principal Accountabilities- Metering
- Install and program AMR devices on meter indexes per company procedures.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and replace AMR devices as required.
- Electronically record all associated data accurately and efficiently.
- Perform meter work orders with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Assist in preparing meters for shipment to testing vendor and validating test results.
- Assist in collecting meter inventory data.
- Complete automated meter reading cycles under strict daily scheduling requirements.
- Perform daily mobile route computer data processing.
- Complete meter lock outs and customer postings per company credit procedures.
- Consistently follow the behaviors associated with the Company’s Core Principles (Commitment, Achievement, Empowerment, Teamwork, Respect, Open Communications, Ethical Practice).

- Report gas leaks and bypasses immediately.
- Perform other work related to the department as assigned.
- Provide backup coverage to other team members as required.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Regular attendance and good safety record.
- Ability to interact with customers effectively and pleasantly.
- Demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude.
- Computer and typing skills.
- Ability to read meters and devices accurately and use electronic reading devices.
- Ability to obtain applicable Operator Qualification (O.Q.) certification per DOT 49 CFR 192, Subpart N.
- Pass applicable Operator Qualification testing.
- Pass DOT Drug Screen if not presently working in a covered position; drug tested under PHMSA drug pool.
- Valid Driver’s License per state requirements.
- Aptitude with figures and ability to maintain required records satisfactorily.
- Pass background check and obtain DBid badge for Portsmouth Naval Shipyard access.
- Necessary fitness and ability to perform assigned work.
- Accept assignments in a declared emergency and be available for overtime.
- May be required to work in inclement weather as determined by supervisor.

Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
WageUltimate rate – $39.05 per hour for a 40‑hour week. Overtime rates in accordance with Agreement. Starting wage will be in accordance with Article VI.
