Job Summary:

The University of Southern Maine is seeking Custodians CL2 on both the Portland and Gorham campuses.

Base pay: $17.37/hr (with an additional $0.80/hr shift differential for shifts between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.).

Full‑time (40 hours per week). Flexible shifts consistent week to week.

• Clean and disinfect a variety of daily campus areas.
• Assist with event set‑ups and take‑downs.
• Collect and dispose trash.
• Clear snow at building entrances and maintain clear entrances.
• Unlock and secure buildings.
• Report maintenance issues and equipment failures.
• Recommend corrective action for improvement.
• Respond to customer concerns with efficiency and respect.
• Collaborate with Facilities Management team, students, faculty, staff, vendors, and the broader USM community.
• Provide guidance, training, and support to custodial team members.
• Other duties as reasonably assigned.

• High school diploma or GED, or international degree equivalent.
• At least one year of custodial or janitorial experience.
• Effective communication skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently, follow verbal and written instructions, and safety procedures.
• Capable of lifting & carrying equipment and materials up to 50 lbs frequently; capable of standing for long periods, bending, and reaching.
• Valid driver’s license meeting University APL requirements.
