Description
Do you love teaching and coaching others? Do you want to help people turn the dream of home ownership into a reality? Avesta Housing is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Home ownership Educator to instruct our first-time homebuyer's education classes.
In this role, you guide first-time home buyers through education and one-on-one counseling, helping them understand the buying process, stay financially prepared, and succeed as long-term homeowners. You balance teaching, coaching, and customer service while ensuring services meet program standards and advance Avesta Housing’s mission of affordable, stable housing.

What We’re Looking ForThe person who is ready for this opportunity will have:
- Strong public speaking and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work weekends.
- Degree in related field and/or relevant work experience.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in housing counseling, real estate, mortgage lending, financial education, social services, education or a related field.
- Experience facilitating group education sessions (e.g. workshops, training programs or public presentations)
- Familiarity with home ownership programs, mortgage lending processes, and affordable housing, preferred.
- Knowledge of HUD, Maine State Housing Authority, or similar housing program requirements.

This is a per diem position
; work hours are not regularly scheduled but instead assigned on an as-needed basis. This role is expected to work approximately 10–20 hours per week with the majority of hours occurring on Saturdays and/or Sundays, based on class schedules. The pay range for this position is $35- $40 per hour.
This job is on-site at our headquarters located at 307 Cumberland Ave, Portland, Maine.
