Apple Creek Farm is an organic livestock farm in Bowdoinham, Maine owned and operated by Abby Sadauckas & Jake Galle. The farm is managed by Abby and Jake and their roles support each other to ensure the smooth running of farm operations. 2026 is the farm’s 12th season. The farm is located on two primary properties and leases additional acreage for hay making and grazing throughout Bowdoinham and Brunswick.

The farm primarily markets livestock products year‑round at farmers’ markets, through CSAs, local food markets near Brunswick, and sells farm goods online and at regional events. The farm crew assists with day‑to‑day management and project completion to support the farm over time.

Job description

We are hiring for a position on our farm & market crew for the 2026 season, from April to December. Responsibilities include participation in weekly farmers’ markets, assisting with our egg enterprise, retail sales at markets and events, and supporting daily livestock chores.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Set‑up market display
  • Greet customers and provide friendly and informed customer service
  • Learn product offerings, usage, and pricing
  • Make product recommendations based on customer needs
  • Perform retail sales using a point‑of‑sale system
  • Monitor and record inventory
  • Safely handle products to maintain quality of packaging and food safety
  • Collect, wash, and package eggs
  • Hold a valid driver’s license (helpful for job duties)

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily livestock chores including feeding, watering, and health monitoring
  • Collect, wash, sort, and pack eggs for markets and wholesale accounts
  • Assist with rotational grazing, including setting up, taking down, moving, and electrifying temporary fences
  • Assist with hay production including tractor work, moving, and stacking bales
  • Assist with construction projects such as fencing, general carpentry, and painting
  • Assist with brush and tree clearing
  • Assist with on‑farm events
  • Set up and operate the farm’s retail market stand
Compensation & Hours

A two‑week paid trial period begins from date of hire. Starting hourly pay is between $17-20 based on abilities and experience. Additional compensation includes $35 worth of farm products each week, accrued paid time off, and workers’ compensation insurance. The position is part‑time (20 hours) in April, increasing to full‑time (40 hours) from May through November. Ideal schedule: five 8‑hour days Tuesday through Saturday.

Monthly schedule may vary to accommodate time off and on‑farm needs, with opportunities for increased hours, rate, and length of employment as experience grows.

Housing is not offered, but assistance is provided to find local housing or additional employment if desired.
