Student Assistant – Internal Communication
The Leibniz Institute for Surface Engineering (IOM) in Leipzig is seeking to fill the following position with immediate effect for a limited duration of one year:
The Leibniz Institute for Surface Engineering (IOM) is researching new functional and precision surfaces for applications of high societal relevance and emerging technologies. One key focus of IOM is on fundamental physical and chemical processes using ions, electrons, plasmas and photons. We are part of the Leibniz Association, one of the four major non-university science organizations with 96 institutes in Germany.
We are looking for a competent, open-minded personality to strengthen our team as soon as possible. We offer you a student position with a weekly workload of 8 hours with a limitation of provisionally one year.

Your tasks:
- Development and testing of suitable internal communication formats, such as an internal newsletter
- Assistance with the design and launch of a regular internal newsletter, including the development and testing of suitable sections and article formats, as well as the creation and editorial preparation of articles
- Assistance with research, coordination, and editorial tasks
- Researching relevant topics and developments from the research groups and service areas
- Establishing and maintaining a network of contacts for internal communication
- Assistance in establishing an institute-wide pool of topics and information
- Writing short articles about research projects, events, and institute-wide activities
- Assistance with conducting and editing interviews with staff members
- Editing content for internal communication channels
Our requirements:
- Currently pursuing a degree in media and journalism
- Excellent written and spoken German and English skills
- Interest in academic topics and research processes
- Enjoyment of researching, writing, and editing texts, as well as creating visuals
- Ability to work independently, in a structured and meticulous manner
- Strong communication skills and openness when interacting with diverse audiences
- Experience with social media or editorial work; initial interview experience
- Knowledge of SharePoint, Teams, CMS (TYPO3), and graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe InDesign, etc.)
