Unsolicited Application as Student Assistant
The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is one of the world's leading organizations for application-oriented research. At the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI, we bring together the expertise of our employees to drive medical progress. Our focus is on cell and gene therapy, pharmaceuticals and vaccines, molecular and immune diagnostics, and other innovative topics. We are the professional home for scientists, engineers, laboratory technicians, and administrative staff who work together in the service of health.
Are you interested in gaining insights into the behind-the-scenes work of a biomedical research environment alongside your studies and supporting the laboratory operations of an innovative research institute? Then become part of our team! Be part of change.
The activities for student assistants at Fraunhofer IZI are diverse and, depending on the area of assignment, range from scientific-experimental work in research projects to organizational support in laboratory operations. If a team is interested in your unsolicited application, the specific tasks and assignment options will be discussed individually during the further application process. Your tasks may include, among others: contributing to scientific research activities and experimental work, supporting the preparation, execution, and documentation of laboratory experiments, organizing and supporting laboratory operations (e.g. preparation of materials and consumables for experiments, preparation of buffer solutions, ordering of materials, stock management, receipt of goods), preparation and post-processing of laboratory areas, including cleaning and disinfection, and supporting general administrative and organizational tasks within project environments.
What you contribute:
- You are enrolled as a student, preferably in natural sciences, engineering, medical sciences, or a related field of study.
- Ideally, you already have some initial experience in a scientific or laboratory environment through internships, holiday jobs, or working student positions; however, this is not mandatory. In any case, please include a short cover letter explaining your motivation for working as a student assistant at Fraunhofer IZI. You may optionally also indicate if you are particularly interested in a specific research area.
- You enjoy working in a team, are helpful and well organized, and demonstrate a conscientious and careful working style.
- You are available locally in Leipzig during the desired employment period.
What we offer:
- Through your work, you help create optimal conditions for the medicine of tomorrow and gain exciting insights into one of Europe's leading organizations for applied research.
- You will be integrated into a committed team and have the opportunity to actively shape your area of work and contribute your ideas. Our flat management structure supports independent and responsible working.
- You will gain practical insights into the organization and processes of a laboratory environment and, depending on your area of work, learn relevant scientific techniques, providing valuable preparation for future research or professional positions. During your time with us, you will receive personal support at eye level.
- Flexible working hours aligned with your studies allow for independent time management.
- Additional benefits: free car parking and secure bicycle parking spaces with charging stations for electric vehicles, as well as discounted employee prices in the institute cafeteria.
We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications – regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Our tasks are diverse and adaptable – for applicants with disabilities, we work together to find solutions that best promote their abilities. The same applies if they do not meet all the profile requirements due to a disability.
