Responsibilities / Essential FunctionsThe Journeyman Mason is responsible for performing high-quality masonry work including laying brick, block, and stone with precision and craftsmanship. This role involves both new construction and repair/replacement work and requires the ability to interpret project plans, follow specifications, and ensure the safe and accurate completion of work. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in masonry, is confident working at heights, and takes pride in delivering quality results.
- Lay block, brick, and stone accurately, ensuring all work is level and plumb.
- Prepare and apply mortar beds and tool joints to specification.
- Shape and cut stone creatively to meet aesthetic and structural design requirements.
- Work on both new builds and replacement/restoration masonry projects.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and project plans.
- Train and mentor apprentices on proper masonry techniques and safety practices.
- Mix mortar and other materials as required on site.
- Safely operate necessary hand and power tools.
- Construct masonry features according to job specifications and standards.
- Follow company and jobsite safety protocols at all times.
- Work confidently at heights when required.
- Collaborate with other crew members to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality results.
- Strong technical skills in masonry techniques and material handling.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools related to the trade.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints and project specifications.
- Creative problem-solving and precision when working with stone.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to train and lead apprentices in a supportive and professional manner.
- Punctual, dependable, and highly motivated.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship.
- Safety-conscious and familiar with jobsite safety standards.
- Minimum of 4 years of masonry experience or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
- Demonstrated experience in bricklaying, block work, and stone masonry.
- Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
- Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
