Carpenter
This role focuses on constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made of wood and metal across a variety of construction projects. You will use your carpentry expertise to complete framing, formwork, roofing, and finish carpentry tasks while maintaining high standards of safety, precision, and quality workmanship.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan and execute carpentry tasks accurately.
- Measure, cut, and assemble wood, metal, and other materials with precision to meet project requirements.
- Build and install structural components such as framing, walls, floors, roofs, and formwork for a range of construction projects.
- Install doors, windows, cabinetry, trim, siding, and other finish carpentry elements to a high standard of craftsmanship.
- Construct and dismantle concrete forms and scaffolding as required for commercial and other construction work.
- Perform rough carpentry tasks, including framing, drywall installation, roofing, and metal stud work.
- Carry out form carpentry and concrete-related tasks to support foundations and structural elements.
- Assist with demolition activities and general construction tasks as needed on-site.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable building codes, construction standards, and safety regulations.
- Collaborate closely with supervisors, project managers, and other trades to coordinate work and meet project timelines.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized work area to support safe and efficient operations.
- 2+ years of carpentry experience or equivalent apprenticeship experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, and materials used in commercial and general construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and plans.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools for framing, formwork, siding, roofing, drywall, and finish carpentry.
- Experience with rough carpentry, including framing, drywall, and metal stud installation.
- Experience with form carpentry and concrete-related tasks in construction environments.
- Ability to perform siding installs, roofing work, and general commercial construction tasks.
- Strong math and measurement skills to ensure accurate cuts, layouts, and assemblies.
- Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship in both structural and finish work.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.
- Commitment to working safely and following all site safety procedures and regulations.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in commercial construction environments.
- Background in demolition work and site preparation is beneficial.
- Comfort working with both wood and metal materials on a variety of structures.
- Ability to adapt to changing project needs and assist with general construction tasks.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with other trades and site leadership.

Work EnvironmentYou will work in a mix of outdoor job sites and unfinished buildings, typical of active construction environments. The role requires comfort working in all types of weather conditions and on partially completed structures. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, and standard construction equipment while following site safety practices. The setting is hands-on, fast-paced, and project-driven, with changing tasks and conditions as work progresses.
JobType & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, ME.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
