Job Summary
The City of Portland's Health & Human Services Department is seeking a full time Community Health Promotion Specialist for our Homeless Outreach Engagement Team. This person will provide compassionate outreach and support to individuals experiencing homelessness. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping community members.
As a key member of the Homeless Services Plan through the City of Portland, this position will build relationships with unhoused individuals, determine needs, and connect people with services like housing, medical care, food, water, and other supports. This position also serves as a liaison between the community and the City of Portland programs like Project HOPE, the Homeless Services Center, and other City assistance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* This position will be a pivotal role in the City's outreach efforts and work collaboratively with community partners.
* Successful candidates will be able to connect with unhoused individuals and provide support to access housing, medical services, food, water, or other needs, by connecting them to the appropriate social and health services entities and community organizations who can provide these services.
* They will provide outreach and education to these individuals and serve as a liaison between the unhoused community and City of Portland programs.
* Individuals with lived experience and/or experience working directly with the unhoused community are strongly encouraged to apply.
Required
Skills & Experience:
* Minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in public health, health education or related field or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
* Strong oral and written skills are essential.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community members, providers, physicians, public health staff and consumers.
* Must be able to do outreach and travel by car to encampments, agencies, and private providers.
* Ability to work with a diverse population.
* Experience using computers and data based software.
* Individuals who are passionate about serving vulnerable populations including those experiencing homelessness
* Proven ability to establish and maintain positive community relationships.
Expected Hours/
Schedule:
Full-Time, 37.5 Hours/week, Monday-Friday 9:00 am-5:00 pm

Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
Salary & Benefits:
This is a project, union position, Pro Tech Grade 6, with a starting pay range of $28.41-$29.27/hourly, based on relevant years of experience.
