position summary

in this role, you will support the accounting team in maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, and ensuring accurate job cost coding within microsoft dynamics 365 business central. This role provides hands‑on experience with contractor accounting processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliations, and month‑end close. The junior accountant plays a key role in ensuring financial data accuracy, supporting internal controls, and maintaining the integrity of the company’s accounting records.

core responsibilities
  • general accounting & erp support
  • enter, review, and maintain ap/ar transactions in microsoft dynamics 365 business central
  • review accounting transactions for accuracy and proper job and general ledger coding; identify discrepancies and proactively investigate and resolve issues to ensure financial data integrity
  • ensure transactions are accurately coded to the appropriate general ledger accounts, jobs, and dimensions
  • maintain organized and accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
  • perform credit card and bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • support month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and report preparation
  • assist with maintaining vendor records, including w-9 collection and 1099 preparation
  • support document management, scanning, and electronic recordkeeping
  • identify and communicate discrepancies or process improvement opportunities to accounting leadership
  • contractor accounting
  • ensure accurate job cost coding for labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment
  • review vendor invoices for proper job coding, required approvals, and compliance with company policies
  • support the correction of job coding discrepancies to maintain accurate financial records
  • assist with maintaining accurate job-related financial records in microsoft dynamics 365 business central
  • accounts payable & receivable
  • process vendor invoices, payment batches, and vendor maintenance activities in microsoft dynamics 365 business central
  • assist with customer invoicing, including progress billing when applicable
  • maintain accurate and up-to-date vendor and customer records
  • assist with monitoring accounts receivable balances and aging reports
  • proactively respond to and resolve accounting support tickets related to vendor and customer payments
  • reconciliation & internal controls
  • perform account reconciliations, including bank accounts, credit cards, and selected general ledger accounts
  • assist with reviewing account balances and reconciliations to support accurate financial reporting
  • ensure accounting transactions are complete, accurate, and properly documented
  • support internal controls and compliance with company accounting policies
  • assist with audit preparation and responding to documentation requests
  • maintain organized financial records to support audit and compliance requirements
experience & education requirements
  • bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or equivalent experience, with 1+ year in accounting, bookkeeping, or related work (internships included), including ar/ap knowledge
  • basic understanding of accounting principles (gaap knowledge preferred)
  • proficiency in microsoft excel and the microsoft office suite
  • experience with microsoft dynamics 365 business central or a similar erp system preferred
  • familiarity with document management systems
  • exposure to contractor accounting concepts, including job cost coding accuracy, retainage, and job-related accounting
  • strong attention to detail, data entry accuracy, and analytical skills
  • strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • clear written and verbal communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
  • willingness to learn and grow in an erp-based accounting environment, with interest in long‑term growth within accounting or finance
