The Role

This position is a key member of the water accounting team, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager. It plays a critical role in collaborating with water subsidiaries as well as NW Natural Water’s parent company’s Financial Reporting and Consolidation teams to ensure high‑quality internal and external financial reports. The role will participate in all accounting functions including preparation of monthly journal entries, intercompany transactions, and monthly reconciliations.

Day

to Day
  • Key contributor in monthly closing process: preparing journal entries, performing reconciliations, and working closely with the water subsidiaries in assisting them with their closing processes.
  • Assist with the company’s consolidation processes and reporting.
  • Oversee intercompany reconciliations.
  • Participate as a resource in the external audit process.
  • Complete internal control procedures to ensure compliance with the Sarbanes‑Oxley Act.
  • Demonstrate appropriate leadership and decision‑making behaviors.
  • Maintain technical accounting knowledge and personal skill development.
  • Lead, contribute to, or participate in ad hoc projects as required.
  • Support the company’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices.
Come on your first day with
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA certificate is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of applied accounting experience; public accounting experience is preferred.
  • Experience in a utility operation and knowledge of standard utility accounting and public utility reporting and filing requirements desired but not required.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying U.S. GAAP principles are required.
  • Experience using SAP or another general ledger or financial software system is preferred.
  • Analytical skills are required, including the ability to critically think and apply technical accounting knowledge to business requirements, including understanding the impacts of decisions made.
  • Verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Requires exceptional attention to detail while keeping the big picture in mind.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with limited supervision.
  • Requires outstanding ethical standards and values consistent with those of the company.
  • Proven ability to work cross‑functionally across an organization and in a team environment.

Base salary range: $69,713.00 – $ per year, depending on qualifications.
