Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Accountant to join our CPA firm. In this role, you will provide comprehensive outsourced accounting, grant management, and tax compliance services to a diverse portfolio of small nonprofit clients. You will work closely with client leadership and our CPA to ensure accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance.

The Accountant for nonprofit clients is a full-time, on-site role located in Portland, OR. This position is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions for nonprofit organizations, including recording transactions, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and maintaining general ledgers. The role involves preparing and reviewing invoices, assisting with budgets, and supporting financial reporting and compliance requirements specific to nonprofit entities. The Accountant will communicate regularly with clients to follow up on outstanding items, clarify financial information, and address questions.

The role also includes using accounting software to generate reports, support audits, and ensure accurate and timely financial records for each client.

• Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements—including Statement of Activities, Statement of Financial Position, and Statement of Cash Flows.
• Fund & Grant Accounting: Track restricted funds, process grant budgets, monitor expenditures against grant guidelines, and prepare grant-specific financial reports for funders.
• General Ledger Management: Perform month-end and year-end close procedures, reconcile bank and credit card accounts, and maintain accurate ledger records.
• Compliance & Audits: Prepare work papers, internal reports, and schedules to assist external auditors with annual financial audits and Form 990 tax filings.
• Client Advisory: Collaborate with nonprofit board members and executives to develop annual budgets and cash flow forecasts.
• Internal Controls: Monitor and recommend internal control enhancements to mitigate financial risk and prevent fraud.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Experience: 5+ years of accounting or audit experience, ideally with specific exposure to nonprofit organizations.
• Knowledge: Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), specifically Fund Accounting and Uniform Guidance requirements for federal grants.
