This position supports the financial operations and grant compliance for a community-based, grant-funded non-profit organization. Reporting directly to the Grants Accounting Manager, the Grants and Contracts Accountant plays a central role in ensuring proper fund accounting, invoice preparation, contract setup, and budget monitoring across various public and private funding streams.
The position collaborates closely with internal program managers and external partners to ensure all expenditures align with donor restrictions, GAAP standards, and regulatory guidelines.
Key ResponsibilitiesInvoicing & Revenue Tracking: Prepare and submit accurate monthly billing for grant funds with supporting documentation; track and reconcile funder receivables and investigate account discrepancies.
Compliance & Contract Review: Review grant agreements and program budgets to verify allowable expenses, appropriate account coding, and adherence to restricted fund guidelines.
Program
Collaboration:
Partner with program managers to monitor budget execution, evaluate expenditure rates, and resolve budget variances.General Ledger & Financial Reporting: Post monthly journal entries, set up new grant contracts in accounting systems, support month-end close, and assist with annual audit preparations.
System Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance tracking, reporting efficiency, and internal financial controls.
2–4 years of experience in accounting or financial services, preferably within non-profit or grant-funded settings.
Direct experience reviewing grant contracts, preparing funder invoices, and monitoring program budgets.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and computerized accounting systems.

Hours:
On-site in Portland, OR for training, with potential for 1–2 days per week hybrid work after onboarding; full-time hours (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM).
Prior experience utilizing Sage Intacct accounting software.
Specialized experience managing public agency, state, or municipal grant billing.
Annual Base Salary: $58,000 - 63,000
Schedule: Full-Time (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM), with hybrid potential (1–2 days remote post-onboarding)
