Starting PayHourly range: $20.00–$25.00, dependent on experience.
Position SummaryThe Portland Community Gardens Program seeks a Program Assistant to support and maintain connections with the city’s diverse population of gardeners. Responsibilities include assisting with program registration, data entry, communications with clients via email, text, and phone, and special administrative projects as needed. The assistant works 24‑30 hours per week at the Tabor Yard Facility, with availability for occasional outreach events on weeknights or Saturdays and opportunities to work at other community garden locations.
QualificationsBilingual speakers of Spanish, Russian, Mien, Nepali, or Karen are strongly encouraged to apply.
Essential Responsibilities- Contact community gardeners to provide or request information, answer general program inquiries, and invite them to program events.
- Answer the primary phone line, provide information to customers, and take messages for other staff.
- Use telephonic interpretation services to communicate with people who speak languages other than English.
- Perform basic data entry and management tasks.
- Perform basic accounting tasks such as preparing bank deposits.
- Use mail merge and other software applications, like the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Create promotional and educational materials.
