The Planning, Development & Research department is looking for an intern to support Metro's Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Program. This internship will support Metro's implementation of region wide growth goals by investing in higher-density, affordable, and mixed-income housing development along transit corridors and development centers. The TOD intern will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a group of planners to evaluate the program's catalog of investments, develop communication tools to advance the program's strategic plan goals, and assist in engagement centered around developing Metro-owned properties into affordable housing.
This internship is best suited for applicants interested in real estate, economic, and community development.
As the Transit-Oriented Development Intern you will
* Review, evaluate, and reorganize the TOD Program's database of previous investments and development outcomes.
* Engage partners on the future development of Metro-owned properties.
* Travel around the Metro region to document existing conditions at development projects that have received TOD Program funding.
* Develop, coordinate, and manage content published on the TOD Program's website.
* Assist the program team in preparing staff reports and funding recommendations.
* Utilize ArcGIS to prepare maps and evaluate spatial data.
* Research real estate market trends and update assumptions used to evaluate TOD Program grant decisions.
* Prepare agendas, coordinate, and take notes for meetings.
* Organize files and project documents.

TO QUALIFY

Minimum qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in urban planning, political science, economics, public policy, or a related field focused on planning or development
* Experience with writing reports and memos
* Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Excel and data analytics
* Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.

Hybrid Telework
At this time, this position is designated as "hybrid telework." You will have the option to work away from the office, although there may be times that coming into the office will be required. The manager will work with you to identify a schedule that balances the operational needs of the department and your needs. Employees must reside in Oregon or Washington to work at Metro

Your transferable skills are any skills you have gained through education, work experience, including the military, or life experience that are relevant for this position.
* Previous technical writing experience
* Experience applying real estate development finance principles to real world development projects
* Professional experience with Excel to organize data from multiple sources
* Photography skills
* Experience working in a professional, office environment
* Some graduate school or work experience in real estate, planning, development, or economics.
