Department Overview
With oversight and direction from the OHSU Office of Research and Innovation and the Chief Research Officer (CRO), the Research Development & Engagement Coordinator is responsible for operational administration of research development and campus-wide engagement s position requires a thorough and detailed knowledge of grant funding opportunities and associated processes, project management experience, strong communication skills, and a high degree of initiative, independent judgment, problem solving, and collaborative skills.
Through collaboration with internal and external customers, including a high level of communication with OHSU faculty and the OHSU Foundation, the Research Development & Engagement Coordinator will provide excellent customer service, while continually assessing, supporting and planning for a wide range of programmatic functions including the limited submission funding opportunity process, administration of the Medical Research Foundation and other internal/foundation grant programs, preparation/maintenance of websites and databases, use of business communications functions, project development, and regular workflow analysis and improvement.
In addition, the Research Development and Engagement Coordinator will assist with research event planning, assist with database inquiries related to the scientific mission, and help to facilitate research-related communications.
Research Development
- Manages the identification, processing, and dissemination of research and academic funding opportunities, including limited submissions, for OHSU.
- Communicates and collaborates with faculty and staff regarding available funding opportunities, eligibility, and the limited submission process.
- Manages web-based internal application system (Info and funding opportunities systems, and maintenance of web-based information; resolves technical issues and problems with software vendors.
- Prepares communication and provides training and technical assistance to users of applications, databases, and programs, as needed.
Internal Funding Programs
- Manages the administration of internal funding opportunities, including but not limited to those related to Scientific Research Review Committee (SRC) and Medical Research Foundation (MRF), as well as OHSU Presidential Bridge Funding.
- Creates competitions through internal application system, assists with inquiries about competitions and provides assistance to users of internal application system.
- Posts funding opportunities in Info Ready (CAP), announces funding opportunities to the appropriate populations, maintains email inquiries and frequently asked questions (FAQ) page, updates MRF and Research Development web pages, manages proposal submissions, distributes proposals for review, and announces award decisions.
- Maintains Medical Research Foundation and Funding Alerts inboxes.
- Coordinates MRF/Bridge funding post-award activities. Post-award support includes disbursement requests, progress reports, no-cost extension management, and re-budget requests.
Coordinates proposal review
- Coordinates assignment of reviewers for grant competitions, including limited submissions and MRF/OHSU Bridge-related opportunities, as well as Faculty Excellence and Innovation Awards.
- Provides administration for review committee meetings and activities.
- Notifies applicants and administrators of funding decisions.
Admin Support & Committee Management
- Provides administrative support and organization to the Chair of Scientific Research Review Committee (SRC), Limited Submission Committee, and Medical Research Foundation (MRF) Committee.
- Provide administrative support to the Faculty Excellence and Innovation Program.
- Schedules and organizes SRC and MRF committee meetings.
- Responds to inquiries and provides requested information to OHSU participants and committee members.
Research dissemination
- Assist as needed with research event planning (e.g., Research Week, town halls, special lectures, scientific campus tours, lab visits, etc.).
