WHERE YOU CONTRIBUTE

The Category Merchandiser plays a critical role in shaping and delivering Dr. Martens' product and merchandising strategy across DTC channels. This role owns the development of consumer‑right assortments, translates commercial and consumer insight into clear product recommendations, and drives category performance through disciplined, data‑led decision‑making. Partnering closely with Product, Planning, Allocation, Retail, Ecomm, Marketing, and Global Merchandising teams, the Merchandiser ensures assortments broaden consumer reach, increase purchase occasions, strengthen brand equity, and improve DTC performance through full‑price sell‑through, margin delivery, inventory productivity, and a consistent go‑to‑market process.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Own the development and execution of seasonal and long‑range assortment plans for assigned DTC categories, ensuring alignment with global direction, local consumer needs, and regional commercial strategy.
  • Translate sales, inventory, margin, consumer, and marketplace data into clear recommendations around SKU productivity, pricing, product adoption, replenishment, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead cross‑functional alignment with Product, Retail, Ecomm, Planning, Allocation, Marketing, and Supply Chain to deliver a disciplined, insight‑driven Go‑To‑Market (GTM) process.
  • Create and present seasonal line reviews, buy recommendations, assortment architecture, product recaps, and business performance readouts for senior stakeholders.
  • Drive the selection, planning, and execution of DTC exclusives, key seasonal items, and category growth initiatives across icons, sandals, bags, franchises, and emerging opportunity areas.
  • Lead market and competitive research, including field visits, consumer insight analysis, promotional benchmarking, and digital experience reviews to inform assortment and category strategy.
  • Monitor in‑season performance and recommend trading actions such as rebuys, consolidations, transfers, exits, and markdown proposals to maximize full‑price sales and protect margin.
  • Maintain a high standard of product data accuracy and ensure merchandising systems, planning tools, reports, and GTM documentation support timely decision‑making.
  • Act as the regional merchandising point of contact for assigned categories, representing Americas needs with Global Merchandising and influencing product decisions with clear local insight.
  • Champion Dr. Martens' brand values, consumer‑first mindset, and premium positioning in all assortment, GTM, and commercial recommendations.
KEY SKILLS & CAPABILITIES
  • Strong commercial and analytical capability, with the ability to turn complex quantitative and qualitative data into clear merchandising decisions.
  • Strong understanding of merchandising fundamentals, range architecture, assortment planning, stock flow, pricing, margin, and product life‑cycle management.
  • Strong understanding of DTC operations, omnichannel dynamics, consumer buying behaviors, and marketplace trends.
Data, Systems & Technical Proficiency
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with merchandising systems, planning tools, reporting platforms, or BI dashboards preferred.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build compelling narratives, present recommendations, and influence cross‑functional partners.
  • Collaborative and influential, with the ability to lead through partnership in a matrixed environment.
Planning, Organization & Execution
  • Highly organized and detail‑oriented, with the ability to manage seasonal calendars, multiple work streams, and shifting priorities with strong follow‑through.
