Job Description

The Concrete Estimator will work within the Estimating department and will report directly to the Estimating Director. They will work closely with other Estimators and Senior Estimators. The Concrete Estimator will analyze project design and construction documents to determine the needs of various projects and provide solutions to increase profitability. They will help develop quantities and prepare project cost estimates.

This position will be fully in-office located at either our Portland, Oregon office or Seattle, Washington office.

Salary Range

$90,000 - $120,000 DOE

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to all functions within Hoffman Structures to support, develop and enhance overall Safety, Quality and Profitability
  • Coordinate and align to share in and promote Hoffman Structures unified vision and team goals
  • Assist in coordination of delegating estimating workload
  • Update Estimating Calendar with estimate timelines
  • Ensure team members are working off proper and updated documents
  • Complete quantity take offs and back checks work as needed
  • Flag constructability items for review with pre‑construction team members as necessary
  • Coordinate necessary meetings with team members to ensure completeness and submission timelines are met
  • Prepare work to be estimated by compiling required drawings, specifications, and related documents (Bluebeam: tools, sessions, smart sheets, etc.)
  • Review project plans & specifications and coordinate with project team to confirm completeness of scope to be estimated
  • Provide necessary reports to fulfill project requirements (Beck/Destini)
  • Solicit subcontractor/supplier information and pricing
  • Encourage, track, and manage M/WESB participation
  • Maintain detailed list of supplier contacts and most recent pricing
  • Review estimates and progress with team members prior to presenting final bid to H.S.I executive team
  • Present estimates to H.S.I executive team prior to final submission to H.C.C. that include $/CY, $/MH
  • Support and mentor new team members
  • Participate in periodic reviews and visits to project sites
  • Advocate leadership, innovation, planning, communication and accountability to advance the H.S.I Culture
Qualifications Professional Experience and Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Bachelor of Architecture or an equivalent degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of construction estimating experience.
  • Education background in materials and methods of construction.
  • Experience specifically in commercial, healthcare, industrial, water treatment and/or hi‑tech type of projects.
  • Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method; familiar with CSI specification system for various scopes of work.
  • Skills in handling several work activities at once while frequently interrupted by phone calls and urgent questions on work in progress.
  • Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques.
  • Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to work closely with project owners, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors and subcontractors.
  • Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience, and professionalism are essential to being able to maintain a cooperative attitude through pressure situations.
  • LEED accreditation preferred, or someone who is willing to become certified in 18‑24 months
  • Proficient in the following programs:
    Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and Outlook) and Bluebeam. Experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E‑Builder, Microsoft Project and Primavera Project Planner (P6). Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.
  • Ability to multitask activities while simultaneously taking calls and providing responses to urgent questions.
  • Must be able to work closely with owners, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors and subcontractors.
  • Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation.
