Assistant Project Manager (Howard S. Wright)
Howard S. Wright is seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to join our NW Healthcare Division in Portland, OR. This role supports the planning, coordination, and execution of healthcare construction projects ranging from renovations in occupied facilities to complex capital improvements and ground-up facilities.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects in fast-paced environments. Experience in healthcare construction or work in occupied facilities is strongly preferred but not required — we are committed to developing strong construction professionals with the right mindset and leadership potential.
Key Responsibilities- Support Project Managers in delivering healthcare projects from preconstruction through closeout
- Assist with budgeting, estimating, and cost control
- Coordinate subcontractors, consultants, and vendors
- Manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, and procurement
- Support scheduling efforts and milestone tracking
- Participate in owner meetings and maintain strong client communication
- Assist in quality control and documentation processes
- Mentor and support junior project engineers
- Help manage projects within active, occupied healthcare environments with minimal disruption to operations
- Support safety compliance and risk management efforts
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in healthcare construction highly preferred
- Experience working in occupied facilities strongly preferred
Understanding of healthcare codes, ICRA protocols, and regulatory requirements is a plus - Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously
- Exposure to estimating and preconstruction processes
- Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Procore or similar platforms)
- Strong communication and organizational skills
The base compensation range for the role posted above is $100,000 - $120,000 annually.
