We're hiring for a position open to both Associate Estimator (P2) and Estimator (P3) candidates. The level will be determined based on the successful applicant's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skills during the interview process.
Key Responsibilities Associate Estimator (P2)- Support project manager (PM) and other project personnel in all phases of small- to medium-scale capital or operations and maintenance projects, or support senior estimators in large-scale capital, operations and maintenance or construction projects; assist in planning for the efficient use of personnel, equipment, materials and subcontractors within schedule and cost.
- Manage all aspects of estimate development, including scope, schedule, cost, safety and quality, or manage estimate development for specific phases or elements of large-scale projects; receive guidance and direction as requested from senior estimators on complex problems or situations.
- Ensure decisions result in a cost-effective, reliable, safe, and constructible/maintainable project.
- Compile and provide data used to evaluate and forecast project costs; develop additional resource forecasting documents to outline resource needs.
- Assist with subcontractor evaluations, clarifications and pricing schedules; prepare requests for proposals for subcontracted scopes of work.
- Assist project team in scoping of projects for engineering, construction and contractual requirements; gather and analyze proposals, drawings, specifications and related documents to identify labor, material and time requirements.
- Work directly with engineers/project managers during all phases or assigned phases of projects to produce cost estimates, including preliminary, conceptual, 25-to-75-percent, prebid/preconstruction and change order phases.
- Compute costs by analyzing labor, material and time requirements; prepare estimates by performing takeoffs and calculating projected costs; prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors; consult with vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Provide first-level classification of generating plant projects as capital or maintenance expenditure and the level of estimating/budgeting effort required; support the development of capital and major maintenance job budgets; analyze, edit and revise specific job budget requests; support development of budgeting database; provide budget analysts with forecasting detail and monthly variance explanations.
- Analyze financial reports and data to support cost-control programs; identify variances, analyze trends and prepare forecasts; make recommendations to management and project engineers regarding job revisions and variances; research and provide data to internal and external auditors as requested.
- Maintain and update software and database resources with current costs of materials, labor, equipment and external contractor services.
- Support project manager (PM) and other project personnel in all phases of medium- to large-scale capital and operations and maintenance or small- to medium-scale construction projects; contribute to planning for the efficient use of personnel, equipment, materials and subcontractors within schedule and cost.
