Tunnel Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tunnel Project Manager to oversee large and complex tunneling and pipeline projects for municipal and state agencies.

This position is responsible for the complete project lifecycle, including preconstruction review, planning, execution, financial management, contract administration, risk control, and project closeout. The selected candidate will manage multiple projects, supervise multidisciplinary teams, maintain client relationships, and ensure each project meets its safety, schedule, quality, and profitability targets.

• Manage heavy civil tunneling and underground pipeline projects valued between $10 million and $100 million.
• Lead project teams consisting of at least 10 project-management, engineering, administrative, and field personnel.
• Manage multiple complex projects or project phases simultaneously.
• Develop project execution plans, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and procurement strategies.
• Oversee tunneling, trenchless construction, deep pipeline installation, and related heavy civil operations.
• Review estimates, takeoffs, production assumptions, and bid strategies prepared by the estimating team.
• Coordinate project handoff from estimating and preconstruction to operations.
• Manage project financial performance, including budgets, cost forecasts, cash flow, billing, and profitability.
• Prepare and review cost-to-complete forecasts and financial status reports.
• Identify and mitigate risks involving scope, schedule, costs, contracts, safety, and technical execution.
• Negotiate change orders, claims, time extensions, and other contract modifications.
• Protect project margins by maintaining accurate documentation and addressing scope changes promptly.
• Coordinate with owners, public agencies, designers, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and field teams.
• Build long-term client relationships and identify opportunities for future work.
• Participate in business-development activities, client presentations, and strategic pursuits.
• Ensure projects comply with plans, specifications, permits, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.
• Promote and enforce jobsite safety and quality-control standards.
• Support company initiatives and leadership assignments as required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• At least 15 years of relevant heavy civil project-management experience.
• At least four years of direct experience managing tunneling projects.
• Experience delivering heavy civil projects valued between $10 million and $100 million.
• Strong understanding of tunneling, trenchless installation, deep large-diameter pipelines, and underground infrastructure construction.
• Proven ability to manage projects profitably and maintain accurate financial forecasts.
• Experience managing large project teams and multiple complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of contract administration, change-order negotiation, scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
• Demonstrated ability to develop client relationships and support new business opportunities.
• Ability to analyze financial, operational, and production data to make informed decisions.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to make time-sensitive decisions and remain accountable for project outcomes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable business applications.
• Ability to travel to project locations as required.
• Ability to satisfy applicable pre-employment screening requirements.

• Municipal water, wastewater, sewer, or utility pipeline construction.
• Work involving public agencies, municipalities, or state-government clients.
• Experience with microtunneling, tunnel boring machines, pipe jacking, auger boring, or similar trenchless methods.
• Experience overseeing estimating or pre-construction activities.
• Demonstrated success developing repeat clients and securing additional project opportunities.
