Brief Description

A Foreman is responsible for providing leadership and directing the work of R&H crews and subcontractors on either SPG projects where they are responsible for supporting the superintendent or on a Buildings project where they are focusing on limited scopes of work (i.e. framing, concrete, interior finishes, building envelope, etc.). The foreman is also responsible for safety, quality control and jobsite logistics/coordination.

Safety

At R&H everyone is empowered to work safe. The foreman must provide leadership that results in a safe work culture, is responsible and accountable for the safety of the crew under their direction.

  • Facilitate weekly job site safety meetings
  • Ensure completion of initial safety and hazard assessments (site specific safety plan and pre-task plans)
  • Participate in safety/incident investigations
  • Ensure tools, cords and equipment have been properly inspected
  • Provide job site safety orientations
  • Track jobsite safety requirements, including employee safety certifications, tool and equipment inspections, etc.
Leadership And Supervision

The foreman coordinates the crews and is involved in holding crews accountable for their performance.

  • Communicate and set expectations regarding job assignments to subcontractors and R&H team members within trade/scope areas
  • Reinforces and promotes an equitable and inclusive work environment
  • Recognize, address, and resolve issues/problems among/between crew members
  • Apply principles of workplace respect on site
  • Ensure crew compliance with project and company policies and procedures
  • Provide performance evaluations for R&H crew members with superintendent input
  • Fill-in for superintendent and management the project for a short duration
Planning And Scheduling

The foreman is accountable for following project plans and schedules to ensure that crews under their direction perform daily and weekly activities to meet productivity goals.

  • Interpret and understand the comprehensive plan set, specifications, RFIs, ASI and other architectural change items for assigned scopes/trades;
    Review technical data related to submittals for conformance with the contract documents including layout and dimensions.
  • Accountable for reading, understanding, and following project schedule
  • Update three week look ahead schedule for assigned trades; prioritize work plan and communicate to crew(s)
  • Ensure crews under their direction perform daily and weekly activities to meet production goals
  • Forecast needed labor for assigned scopes/areas of work
  • Looks ahead and requests/orders needed material for upcoming work in scope areas
  • Work with the crew to offer and solve project problems/challenges
  • Perform material take-offs
Quality Control

The foreman is accountable for ensuring the completed work under their direction meets quality standards.

  • Direct and review work crews under supervision put in place to ensure it is compliant with construction documentation.
  • Ensure completed work meets R&H quality standards
  • Conduct onsite assessment/pre-planning prior to commencing work to ensure the job runs smoothly
  • Oversee the execution of the work, including quality and production, ensuring that the crew meets job specifications and follows plans
  • Read and interpret building plans/drawings/specifications
  • Accurately measure and perform layout according to plans/specs
  • Inspect and measure completed work
  • Document any necessary quality control efforts
  • Communicate corrections to subcontractors or R&H workers as needed
Administration
  • Accountable for the preparation of reports, including work progress, daily timekeeping, daily reports, incident reports, etc.
  • Track and report accurate on-site labor
  • Responsible to track and document T&M labor/materials when required
  • Log and track special inspections
  • Drive to/from jobsites, office, meetings, etc.
  • Perform additional assignments (including some journey-level carpenter tasks) as requested by the Workforce Manager or Site Supervisor.
