Join our team as a Temporary Expanded Function Dental Assistant at Rosewood Family Health Center in Portland, OR. We are a leading community health center in the Pacific Northwest with 40+ clinics across Washington and Oregon. We provide a full spectrum of services including medical, dental, pharmacy, orthodontia, nutritional counseling, autism screening, behavioral health, and community outreach such as shelter assistance, energy, weatherization, HIV and AIDS counseling, home visits, and mobile medical/dental clinics.
PositionHighlights
- $28.22–$35.95 per hour (DOE)
- Maintain and update patient medical records and vital signs as needed.
- Perform complete patient X‑ray procedure, including panoramic and cephalometric radiographs and intra‑oral photographs, and store the X‑rays in the electronic dental record.
- Set up periodontal charting per provider’s instruction.
- Prepare instruments and equipment required for the patient exam.
- Mix materials for the exam, following infection control and cross‑contamination protocols.
- Perform preventative periodontal care, including coronal polish, fluoride treatments, and sealants.
- Administer nitrous oxide analgesia as needed under the direct supervision of the provider (only in Washington).
- Educate and counsel patients regarding oral hygiene in clinic and mobile unit school‑based programs.
- Assist in implementing and monitoring the patient infection control program, ensuring sterile packaging integrity, instrument sterilization, and autoclave maintenance.
- Assist in orthodontics, including obtaining patient records, bite registrations, patient models, fabricating retainers, and placing/removing ligature ties.
- Perform clinical responsibilities in alignment with the Joint Commission, HRSA, and YVFWC requirements.
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
- Registration as a Surgical Technologist if assisting a dentist in the operating room.
- EFDA certification required within 90 days of employment.
- Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish preferred; ability to communicate at level 10.
- Basic knowledge of medical/dental terminology, dental anatomy, materials, instruments, infection control techniques, and oral health care instruction.
- Ability to perform four‑handed dental assisting, including instrument transfer, oral evacuation, cement mixing, and spatulation.
- Strong manual dexterity and coordination; professional interaction with patients of all ages and staff.
- Basic proficiency in an Electronic Dental Record (EDR), Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
