Architectural Design Technician
We are seeking an experienced Architectural Design Technician for a contract-to-hire opportunity with our client in Portland, Oregon. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented design professional with experience supporting semiconductor or other high-tech manufacturing facilities. The successful candidate will develop facility layout designs, produce high-quality construction documentation, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support complex engineering and construction projects.
Key Responsibilities- Develop detailed layout designs for semiconductor equipment installations within fabrication and cleanroom environments.
- Coordinate space planning, equipment placement, and workflow optimization to maximize operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with facilities, process, equipment, architectural, engineering, and construction teams to ensure layouts meet project and operational requirements.
- Ensure compliance with cleanroom standards, safety requirements, building constraints, utility systems, and structural considerations.
- Produce, revise, and maintain layout drawings, 3D models, installation plans, and supporting documentation.
- Support equipment move-in planning, installation activities, and facility ramp-up efforts.
- Identify and resolve layout conflicts, including utility routing, equipment clearances, and maintenance access requirements.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of drafting standards, modeling practices, and layout procedures.
- Create and modify drawings and models using verbal direction, redlines, sketches, and markups while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Prepare project deliverables for all phases of design, including floor plans, elevations, sections, schedules, details, and construction documents.
- Present Revit and Navisworks models during project meetings and participate in model walkthroughs and coordination sessions.
- Coordinate designs across multiple disciplines and resolve conflicts with existing field conditions.
- Assist with field verification and site surveys of existing facilities.
- Provide accurate project status updates, estimate task durations, and communicate progress to project leadership.
- Review your own work for completeness and accuracy before formal quality reviews.
- Maintain project schedules while consistently delivering high-quality design documentation.
- Associate degree in Computer Drafting & Design or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience supporting building systems or architectural design projects within semiconductor, cleanroom, or other high-tech manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of drafting, modeling, and construction documentation standards.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately produce detailed drawings and models with minimal supervision.
- Ability to interpret verbal direction, engineering markups, and design intent.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Experience with semiconductor equipment layouts and installation processes.
- Experience using 3D modeling and clash detection software.
- Familiarity with cleanroom design requirements and high-tech manufacturing facilities.
- Knowledge of applicable safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Advanced proficiency with:
- Revit
- Navisworks
- AutoCAD
- Bluebeam
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience creating and coordinating complex 3D models.
- Ability to identify and resolve interdisciplinary design conflicts.
- Strong understanding of production schedules and project coordination.
- Ability to estimate work effort and prioritize multiple assignments.
