Overview

Join our Team at Portland Community College. Portland Community College is the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon and serves approximately 80,000 students. PCC has four campuses, five workforce training and education centers, and 200 community locations in the Portland metropolitan area. Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for Part-Time Faculty assignments in the Music and Sonic Arts Department at the Cascade Campus. This is not a specific open position but a Part-time Faculty Interest Pool from which the department may identify applicants based on course assignment needs during the Academic Year. Applications may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full term class assignments.

Program and Who We Are Looking For

Unique to the Cascade Campus, Professional Music is a 43-credit certificate program. Students select an emphasis in performance, electronic music production, or studio recording. Prospective applicants with expertise in music theory, electronic music production, and recording arts are encouraged to apply. Preferred qualifications include a four-year degree in a related field, recent professional experience, knowledge of musical traditions in diverse cultures, and the ability to communicate effectively with people from varied backgrounds.

Instructor Qualifications

See the following acceptable combinations of degrees and experience:

  • Master’s degree in Music Education, Performance, Composition, Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design or related field; three years of industry experience as a performer, composer, engineer, producer, or sound designer.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Performance, Composition, Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design or related field; four years of industry experience as a performer, composer, engineer, producer, or sound designer.
  • Associate’s degree in Music Education, Performance, Composition, Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design or related field; five years of industry experience as a performer, composer, engineer, producer, or sound designer.

Demonstrated competency: for other kinds of experience not listed above, the Division Dean, in consultation with the Faculty Department Chair, will make a recommendation to the Dean of Instruction, subject to approval by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
