Job Summary
This job posting is for Co-Pilots who will begin tutoring in the Fall semester of 2026.
Writing Assistant Co-Pilots provide writing assistance to UP students in any discipline or course. Writing Assistants will tutor students who book appointments with them, host drop-ins, or they may be matched with a student through our Dedicated Writing Assistance program.
Candidates MUST have previously taken, are currently enrolled, or will be enrolled in ENG 317 during the Fall 2026 semester.
Core Duties
* Support active student learning at all stages of the writing process by helping students understand writing prompts, brainstorm ideas, create drafts, revise and edit
* May hold drop-in hours to help encourage students to get help in their classes
* Actively participate in all required training sessions
* Read and respond to communications with the Associate Director of Tutoring Services and the Director of the Writing Center
* Maintain a professional, welcoming, inclusive, antiracist environment in the Learning Commons in our physical and online spaces
* Value and maintain confidentiality of students following FERPA guidelines
* Maintain accurate record of tutoring sessions and time worked
* Complete post-visit follow-up reports
* Follow Learning Commons policies
* Maintain a clean and organized space in the Learning Commons
* Other relevant duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
* Previously taken, currently enrolled, or will take ENG 317 in Fall 2026.
* Successful completion of tutored courses
* Excellent interpersonal communication skills
* Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
* Availability to work a minimum of 2 hours per week
Preferred Qualifications
* Demonstrated excellence in academic peer assistance within or outside of the classroom or experience teaching or one-on-one tutoring
* Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above
* Ability to have a flexible work schedule based on appointment requests
